Coupling of dielectric barrier discharge plasma with oxygen permeable membrane for highly efficient low-temperature permeation

Ceramic oxygen permeable membranes (OPMs) are widely considered the “next generation” technology for pure separation and catalytic membrane reactors. However, main issue of OPM is high operating temperature (above 800 °C) resulting implications materials, cost, as well complexities (e.g., sealing, creep deformation, thermal shock during cycling). A new design coupling La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-? with a dielectric barrier discharge plasma (a type atmospheric pressure non-thermal plasma) proposed highly efficient low-temperature (600 permeation. This study demonstrates that can activate surface exchange reactions. Applying 15 W air-plasma effectively reduce apparent activation energy permeation process from 136.6 to 43.1 kJ mol?1. The flux increased by factor nearly 30 at 600 °C power W. newly developed plasma-membrane micro-reactor enables further performance enhancement lower temperatures integration solid oxide fuel cells, reactors, membranes.
